Nineteen DP projectors have just finished entertaining thousands of viewers at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, one of the most important film festivals in the world. Digital Projection has been the official provider of video projectors to the Sundance Film Festival since 1998.
For the past several years, we have lobbied the festival’s management team to change their name to the Sundance Video and Film Festival. Why, you may be wondering? Simply put, the majority of the festival’s content is now projected through our video projectors rather than film projectors. Video is a more consistently accurate, easier and less expensive medium in which to project.
This past summer, our applications support engineers selected the DP projector models best suited for each of the Festival’s venues. Decisions were based on the screen size, throw distance, and theater size. Then, in early January, our technical team advanced on the mountains of Park City and Salt Lake City, equipped with their fleet of nearly two dozen LIGHTNING and TITAN projectors. Armed with light meters and laptops, our Sundance projectionist team installed and tweaked every projector, critically calibrating color utilizing the proprietary Colormax™ electronics and firmware, found in all Digital Projection displays. This assured hundreds of filmmakers that their prized work would be presented with absolute color integrity.
With the 2009 festival now an official “wrap,” our projectionist team and fleet of projectors are both speeding back to headquarters. Some of the brand new TITAN 1080p-700 and TITAN Reference Displays that were used at Sundance are being offered for sale on our ”Specials” list.
